I love this show because, episode by episode, you never know what you're going to get; you never know where you're going to go; you never know who you're going to meet.— Jason Roberts, on The Orville[1]

Jason Roberts was a first assistant director during the first season of The Orville and is now its unit production manager.

Background[]

Roberts got his start in Hollywood as a dga trainee in the mid-1990s, including on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1994 for eight episodes. For Deep Space Nine, hiring staff sought fresh blood that was unfamiliar with the Star Trek franchise, and Roberts got the job because he did not know what the acronym "TNG" (Star Trek: The Next Generation) meant.[2] That same year, Roberts received his first job as a second assistant director on the film The Pornographer.

The Orville[]

Jason Roberts joined the crew of The Orville in time to film About a Girl, and returned for the episodes If the Stars Should Appear, Krill, Into the Fold, and Firestorm. He also worked on Primal Urges, a first season episode that Fox moved to the second.[2] He was promoted to unit production manager for the second season, the first time he has worked in this role.[3]
