Larry Joe Campbell is an American actor who plays Chief Engineer Steve Newton on The Orville.

Background Edit

Larry Joe Campbell was born in Pontiac, Michigan and grew up in Cadillac. As a child, he was a science fiction fan, and invented Star Trek-style games with his three older brothers.[1]

His most prominent role is Andy on the sitcom According to Jim. He has had several guest roles on television series including The Trouble With Normal, My Name Is Earl, Weeds, The Protector, Dog With A Blog, Best Friends Whenever and American Vandal. Movie roles include parts in Wedding Crashers, Pacific Rim, R.I.P.D., and Teacher of the Year.

He also directed nine episodes of According To Jim.

The Orville Edit

Campbell unsuccessfully auditioned several times for roles on Family Guy. The auditions caught the eyes of The Orville producers, who invited him to try for the role of Steve Newton.[1] Campbell and Chad L. Coleman (Klyden) publicly joined the cast of The Orville together on April 3, 2017.[2]

He likens his role to Scotty, a chief engineer on Star Trek the Original Series.[1]
