Significance or Notability[]

We probably should have a section in here on how significant a topic should be before it's made an article (or Category). We have an awful lot of articles that are just plain useless junk that no one is going to want to research. FishTank (wall) 18:20, October 31, 2017 (UTC)

Right, I actually agree. Especially in regards to categories. There have been multiple instances recently of users creating unnecessary sections and launching them onto a dozen articles without checking if they're actually needed. What is some of the other junk you're talking about? Thanks to my Content Moderator tools I can purge most of that if I know where to look. Blizzard1289 (talk) 23:51, October 31, 2017 (UTC)
Well, we can start at permanent stubs like Barry Manilow. There is absolutely no reason this should be an article on this community, short of Barry Manilow appearing on the show (or similar circumstances). If we look at Special:ShortPages, I know we can create a list to cut these down. A good rule of thumb is: if it doesn't fill at least one full screen, there's probably not that much to say about it. Pages like Krill (disambiguation) can also go, as that's what hatnote navigation / context links are for (when there are only two pages, there's no ambiguity. The most common search term is going to be looking for the species, so that page gets renamed to Krill). There are plenty of others, but as more and more cruft articles get added we need to establish the standard. -- FishTank (wall) 20:50, November 4, 2017 (UTC)
Good catch. I'll definitely make sure to get rid of them later tonight and (hopefully) finish up a rough draft of the Manual. Glad I'm not the only one who thought those Disambigs seemed out of place. The Orville isn't nearly vast enough to warrant those and I'll have to go through those links you listed to see what else needs work. Thanks! Blizzard1289 (talk) 22:08, November 4, 2017 (UTC)
