The Valondis was a religious leader of the Church of Kelly on an unnamed multi-phasic planet. When he decided to reveal to the people that their deity Kelly was not a goddess but a woman named Kelly Grayson, he was assassinated by a church dignitary.
History[]
Valondis was first seen with a church dignitary and a prisoner, a boy caught stealing fruit from church land. The boy explained that his theft was to feed his starving family. Valondis decided that his judgement will be decided "by Kelly," where a fatal cut was made on the wrist that they believed would be healed by their deity, Kelly, should she decide to extend mercy.
The three were interrupted by the sudden intrusion of First Officer Kelly Grayson and a USS Orville ground team disguised in peasant's attire. Grayson disrobed to reveal her Planetary Union uniform. Valondis and his guards immediately fell prostrate, believing her to be their deity returned.
Grayson convinced Valondis that she is not a goddess before returning to the Orville. Valondis vowed to tell the people of his planet that Kelly was a mere fiction. Concerned that the truth would jeopardize power in the church, the church dignitary murdered Valondis by stabbing him in the back with a dagger.
Production[]
According to Wardrobe Designer Joseph Porro, Valondis was intentionally modeled after the Pope of the Catholic Church.[2]
Trivia[]
- A church guard referred to him as "the Valondis," implying that the name is a title or rank and not his given name.
